MRS JAN WILSON – CHAIR OF H&DCC 1996 – 2020
“MRS HADDINGTON”
At the recent Community Council meeting on Tuesday 10th of November, Mrs Jan Wilson stepped down as Chair to be succeeded by Chris McEwan (previously the Vice-Chair of the CC). A huge vote of thanks was given to Jan by members of the CC and District Councillors at this meeting, with many floral tributes being delivered to Jan following the meeting from other officials in the town. Jan will remain on the CC as a serving Community Councillor.
Over the years Jan has been part of many other groups in the town, HADAS, Haddington Vision Group, Haddington Business Association, Haddington Business Community Partnership, Haddington Community Development Trust, Festive Lights Group, Haddington Events and more recently the Haddington Town Centre Group. Never one to mince her words, Jan has tirelessly served on these groups for the benefit of the town and the community as a whole. Most recently, Jan was involved in the battle to save Whittinghame Drive to stop it becoming a transport hub, she believed the community did not want this to happen and therefore it was her duty to help in the fight to save this piece of greenspace in the town.
She is a “well kent face” mainly due to the numerous craft fairs, art exhibitions and Haddington Festivals where she has been at the helm, not letting anyone walk past until they’ve bought a raffle ticket or paid the entrance fee. Never without a smile, come rain or come shine, Jan was there. She did these things because she loves this town and because she says “it’s a pleasure” representing the community. Quite rightly, she received an MBE for all her work on behalf of the community.
We will always be grateful for the many years of service Jan has given to this town during her years as Chair of the Community Council, and we hope she will continue to serve on the Community Council for as long as she chooses. We also wish Chris good luck in his new post as Chair. Thank you “Mrs Haddington”.
